Rite of Spring

What I like about this poem is that although what is

happening in the poem is nothing interesting itself, the

language creates an interesting imagery.

I find that the rhythm of the poem has a interesting touch

to the language, the rhyming verses seem to slow down

the first half of the poem, and symbolically the language

mirroring the events of the poem and presenting a relaxing

imagery of the cool ice, E.g  in its throat, the ice founding

itself upon iron. The handle paralysed at an angle.

This poem is about the ending of winter and beginning of

the spring, as the ice and snow is slowly melting away. its

slow rhythm subtlety mirrors just that, as The other half of

the poem describes the melted water as it rushes through

and bursts out of the pump after finally being melted by a

light. Quickening the pace of the poem as if ushering the

reader into the beautiful  beginning of spring.

What I like  about Seamus Heaney is his ability to convey

themes such as tragedy or mystery in his poems, such

as Bye Child or Limbo where in both poems a situation

emerges that tells of great sadness, poems such as these

can really get a person thinking, speculating the meaning

of the poems, immersing themselves into that world. I also

like you can tell that Heaney is truly passionate about his

work and poetry, with the the amount of care and detail to

his poem, great use of language and imagery to impress

the reader.
